UNDERGROUND SERVICES
This training course is to ensure delegates are aware and act in accordance with
all current specifications and safe working procedures. Delegates will be shown
the correct procedures for locating underground apparatus and be aware of the
dangers from damage to underground apparatus.
Course Aims: • Identification of types and limitations of Cable
Avoidance Tools and Signal Generators
• Interpret plans showing location of underground
services • Implications of damage, handling and transporting
• Identify different service apparatus encountered of equipment
during excavation • The methods of safe use of pipe and cable location
• Identify risks and implications of damage to equipment, along with basic locating techniques
underground apparatus • Safe working practices
• Understand and be able to use the cable & pipe • Knowledge assessment
locating devices • Practical session where each candidate will be
assessed on their ability and competence in using
Course Content: the CAT & Genny
Reassessment will cover the following areas:
• Underground services- identification methods Prerequisites:
• Regulations with respect to Detecting and Tracing • Candidates are required to provide their own PPE.
• Underground Services • Lunch is provided.
• Reasons for using locators
• Hazards arising from the use of Cable Avoidance Who Should Attend?
Tools and Signal Generators and precautions which Any person who is involved in the use of cable
should be observed avoidance tools to survey work areas for
underground services.
